TOWN Clubs encourage weight loss, by
promotion of a nutritional eating regime, at weekly meetings that include
weigh-in and group therapy.
This has been designed to stimulate the exchange of ideas for healthy
living and exercise. TOWN Clubs strongly discourage the use of non-prescribed
medication and substitute food.
TOWN Clubs of Victoria started in Melbourne
in 1968 following a visit to the United States by two Melbourne women.
Over recent years the number of clubs has grown to 120 with several
more being developed, at present we have approximately 9000 members.
TOWN Club is one Club with many venues,
run with similar formats, reporting to Zones who make up the Central
Council, which is the governing body of the affiliated clubs. Annual
competition between the clubs encourages weight loss and increases the
network of support.
TOWN is a non-profit organisation, run
by voluntary people who are willing to work and promote weight loss
for men, women and young people. The day and evening clubs are low cost,
relaxed, friendly and offer support, ideas and stimulation to reach
and maintain a realistic weight. The full meeting takes between one
and two hours per week.
To join TOWN, a person needs to be over
14 years of age, have 10 kg's to lose to obtain Graduate status, however
6.5 kg's will allow for Mini Graduate status. A Doctor's letter must

A feature of TOWN is the monthly award
night when members are rewarded for their weight loss and gainers are
encouraged to try again.
